Watch Your Back, Sniper.
A good sniping post should be at least partially protected. Since you are concentrating your view on a particular location, you are open to a frag from behind. You should find a spot that protects you on at least two sides, thus preventing other players from shooting you in the back. The best sniping posts are accessible only by rocket jumps; anyone with the guts to come after you conveniently serves himself up already damaged and directly in your sights.

Quake III Arena Cheats.
Display the console at any point in the game (during game play or at any screen). Type /sv_cheats 1 then enter /devmap
Use the one of the following values for :
q3dm<1-18> or q3tourney<1-6>
Or, you can use any custom map (leave off the map extension *.bsp)

Bounce and Acceleration Pads.
Bounce pads appear both on the ground and on angles in many of the maps. Running into or over a bounce pad sends you into the air. Each bounce pad has its own particular trajectory; some send you straight into the air, while others send you sailing off at angles.
Acceleration pads look like ramps leading to nowhere. Stepping onto an acceleration pad launches you across the map to a location on the other side. They frequently take you over deadly terrain. Usually these jumps lead you to a particularly powerful weapon or power-up.

Get the Jump on Them.
Jumping downstairs, upstairs, or over low walls helps you move across a map much more rapidly. Even hopping along flat ground speeds you up. The additional speed you have with jumping also helps close the distance between you and your enemies, forcing them to change weapons or risk blowing themselves up.
Keep Moving.
In general, you should keep moving in any of the Arenas. Aiming is easier when you're sitting still, but it also makes you a sitting duck for anyone who wanders into the area. You also tend to encounter fewer enemies, which means fewer opportunities to score frags. Another problem is that by standing still, you don't run across any new items. You must keep moving if you want to improve your stock of weapons, heal, and gain armor.

Steal The Quad Damage Rune.
Usually, the best advice when you see that blue-glowing opponent who's grabbed the quad damage is to run like hell because the damage he dishes out will be quadrupled for the time that his power-up is activated. But Quake 3 lets you pry the quad damage rune from your opponent's cold, dead hands. So if you see an opportunity, such as the quad dude chasing down some other poor schmuck, you can take the quad guy down and grab the remaining time of the quad damage for yourself.

Splash Damage.
If you have a rocket launcher and some distance between you and your opponent, it's often easier to shoot rockets at the walls or floor near your enemy and let the splash damage do your dirty work.

Quad Camping Spot.
On the third level (the space one), there's a great camping spot. Go up, find the quad damage, and wait. This strategy will reward you in two ways: 1. You can keep getting the Quad Damage as it respawns. 2. When everyone else heads for it, you will be waiting.

The Downside of Invisibility.
Invisibility has it's limitations; use it to maneuver yourself through the shadows into the perfect sniping spot. But once you fire your weapons, look out! Your opponents won't find it very difficult to figure out where the barrage is coming from.

Watch That Flag.
During CTF matches, make sure that you base is well defended. If everyone on your team goes for another team's flag, the enemy will have no problem in capturing your flag so be careful.



Master the Rocket Jump.
Before you start, make sure you're full up on health and armor because this might sting a bit. To perform a rocket jump, point your rocket launcher at the ground and jump. As soon as you jump, fire the rocket launcher straight into the floor. The force of the explosion sends you flying into the air dozens of feet higher than a normal jump.
For an even higher jump, rocket jump off a bounce pad. The trick here is to fire the rocket launcher directly into the center of the pad just after you bounce off it. This sends you an incredible distance, getting you up to much higher locations than you could normally reach. Some areas are inaccessible except by rocket jumping off a bounce pad.
You can also increase the height of your jump with the BFG10K. To perform a BFG jump, simply use the BFG in place of the rocket launcher. This takes you much higher than the rocket launcher, but you also take more damage.

Use your Teleporter To Get Out Of Trouble.
Quake 3's Personal Teleporter is a really useful tool. pressing your Use key will teleport you to a different part of the map. Remember that your destination is randomly selected, it's best to carry the teleporter with you and use it only when you're getting seriously close to being fragged.

Watch Your Ammo.
Pay attention to the ammunition level of your current weapon. If you only have a few rounds left, switch to a different gun or grab some more ammo if it's nearby. You don't want to run out of ammo two seconds into the next firefight.

Listen To What Is Going Around You.
Don't just rely on sight to locate enemies. Get to know the sounds of a running player or a grabbed health. You can often tell when someone is around the next corner by the sounds emanating from that direction. Also, listen for sounds coming from above and below to hear campers or locate prime targets.

Up Close And Personal.
If you're using the shotgun, be sure and close with your intended frag victim. The spread of the shotgun makes it virtually worthless over any distance, but if you're point-blank it's one of the most devastating weapons in the game. Dodge your way closer until you're face-to-face, then unload and watch the gibs fly.

Easy Pickings.
If you see two or more combatants waging war on each other, give them a second or two to weaken before wading into the fray. Worst case scenario: You'll take out the decimated victor easily. Best case: You can frag them both before they realize that you're a third party in their melee.
