Tips - Tip -- the extreme end of something; especially something pointed

Baldurs Gate Tips. Baldurs gate tips and baldurs gate hints tips with baldurs gate cheats and tips.

Fighting Mages.
Outfit your mages with a normal ranged attack weapon (such as a sling or darts) so they can keep above the fray. Low-level mages are more effective with a sling than with their spellcasting.

Backstab with Stealth.
To take out a powerful enemy, try having your thief head forward in stealth mode and then attempt to backstab (which does extra damage). If it fails or doesn't kill the target, you can always reload and try again or bring in the rest of the party for backup.

Export and Import.
If you have time on your hands, you can export a character after it has gained an ability or an item and then import it into a different saved game. It may take awhile, but this technique can be used to build up an impressive array of items and abilities.

Take Screenshots.
If you'd like to take a screenshot of an impressive combat move (to show your friends or post on your Web page) just hit the PrintScreen key. The screenshot will show up in your Baldur's Gate/Screenshots directory.

Resurrection is a Valid Option.
You can resurrect a dead party member at a temple as long as he or she hasn't sustained more than ten points of damage. Some battles are tough and you may want to use the Resurrect option rather than replay the battles numerous times to get the outcome you desire.

Magnetic Fighting Machine.
It's important to outfit your lead fighter with everything you find that will make him tough to hit and kill--magic items that help him evade missile attacks are lifesavers for this stout fellow. Turn him into a tank with plate armor and magic items that lower his armor class even more and let him be a magnet for the enemy attacks while the other members of your group clean up.

Use Formations.
Formations allow you to select which party members will receive the brunt of enemy attacks. Mages and thieves die quickly if they are targeted right away, so you don't want them at the forefront. A popular strategy is to use the "T" formation or the "triangle" formation, with your fighters at the forefront. There is one exception to the "fighters in front" rule and that's in dungeons. Use a thief to scout for traps (which will show up in a red outline) and then disarm them.

The "circle" formation is handy to use when you want to rest your party, since you might be waylaid while resting and you'll have no idea where the attack will come from. Put your badly wounded character in the middle for protection.

Lift the Fog With Boots of Speed and Invisibility.
Knowing what's beyond the fog of war can be an invaluable asset. Cast Invisibility on a character with Boots of Speed (or cast Haste on him as well) and have him zip about the map, uncovering the fog as he goes.

No Blood, No Foul.
If you're running a good party, you'll want to watch your reputation--i.e. no chopping up small children or stealing from the blind. But if your morals are a tad flexible, you can steal and pickpocket without losing any reputation points - as long as you don't get caught. And if you do, just reload and try again.

Summon Monsters.
Never underestimate the value of summoned creatures. Even if they're really wimpy and can't do much damage to the enemy, they'll divert the bad guys' attacks away from your party members long enough for you to deal out some serious hurt.

Lead, Follow, or Get Out of the Way.
Your own character does not need to be the group leader. Your character is the leader by default when you start the game, but unless you're playing as a fighter, it's better to have another character lead and be the focus of enemy attacks.

Stingy Mages.
Don't be afraid to use scrolls, potions, and wands throughout your adventures. There are always more to be found or purchased as you progress. Sending a thief into a manor to do some lock picking, for instance, sometimes yields powerful magic items. Just be smart and use these items when you need that extra boost to get through a difficult situation.

Item Storage.
Unfortunately, there aren't any banks or storage lockers in Baldur's Gate and if you sell items to a merchant, you'll often end up paying twice as much to get them back. Luckily, this is one of the most trustworthy worlds around as you can leave items inside any chest, crate, box, or barrel and they'll be waiting for you when you return.

One Monster at a Time.
When you're getting into a large encounter, especially where the enemy has ranged attacks, have one character edge forward and expose the fog of war a little at a time. If you can bring down a nasty group of bad dudes one or two at a time, it'll make it much easier on your party's health.

Counter Confusion: Tales of the Sword Coast.
While on the quest to retrieve Shandalar's Cloak, you'll encounter a lot of Confusion-casting mages, which can wreak havoc on your party loyalty. One way to combat this tactic is to send in your toughest character alone. Even if they end up getting Confused, the only foe for them to lash out at is the wizard and his compatriots.
